Read the whole upgrade row
The upgrade screen shows the current level and score components for each hand. Compare the hand's present value with how often you have made it during the run. An upgrade is strongest when both the score and the activation path are clear.
Do not treat a rare hand as automatically better. If it requires most rerolls and conflicts with existing skulls, its upgraded ceiling may remain theoretical.

Use a two-line plan
Choose one primary hand that carries ordinary levels and one secondary hand that catches rolls the primary plan cannot use. The secondary line should share held dice or skull triggers where possible.
This prevents a bad opening roll from forcing a complete change of strategy while keeping upgrades concentrated.
- Primary repeatable hand
- Secondary fallback hand
- Shared dice pattern
- Shared skull conditions
Recheck after a new skull
A skull can change which hand deserves the next upgrade. If a new effect rewards a different rank or reroll state, test it before redirecting several upgrades.
Record the first level where the new interaction succeeds. If it remains awkward after multiple attempts, keep the established hand plan rather than forcing the pickup to justify itself.
